Happy Halloween!
A HUGE thank you to everyone who gave treats and sent their children with costumes! We had SO MUCH FUN at our party! We made a ton of crafts, played games, shared gym time with Mrs. Shanks' class, and watched a spooky Disney movie. That was a well deserved treat for all of the hard work these kids have done for the last 2 months. We have library exchange on Monday. P.E. on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Music is on Tuesdays and Thursdays so they will need their recorders on those days at school. Our spelling test is on Friday. The Book Fair begins next week and we will be getting a preview on Monday. Our first field trip is on Wednesday to the Heritage Museum! Thank you to those of you who volunteered! We have a ton of parents joining us :) This will support our current and upcoming social studies units. That day, our hot lunch will be packed and taken home at the end of the day, so please pack a lunch and snack for your child. Thanks again!

I hope you are all having a lovely, sunny, Friday!
This coming week we have library exchange on Monday, P.E. on Monday and Thursday, and music on Tuesday and Thursday. We have a magazine fundraiser information assembly on Thursday. Students will be receiving their spelling words, and will be tested on Friday, November 6th. Our party is this Friday! There will be a costume parade last block on Friday starting at 1:55 ish. For more information on the party, please see the notice sent home or click the notes home page. Thank you to those who attended our student led conferences on Wednesday and for those who had appointments with me on Thursday. It was a successful few days and I'm looking forward to see what this year brings! Tanya Timmermans We have had a great week!
We had our first spelling test and the kids did a FABULOUS job! I do not give these tests very often, but I use the results as part of their spelling conventions mark for writing. We are wrapping up our addition unit next week and will begin subtraction soon. The test will be given once subtraction has been covered. We finished our soccer unit and now we are moving on to volleyball. It is photo day on Monday, as well as library exchange and P.E. I will be "away" Monday afternoon, but will be in the school as I am part of the ILT team for our school that is focusing on improving student writing skills. Next week is a bit crazy.....Students will be dismissed at 12:15 on Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday we are having our open house from 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6. Thank you to those of you who returned the notice as now I know who to expect! Your child will show you what we have been working on and I will be present to answer any questions. If more time is needed, we can book an appointment to meet on Thursday. There is no school Friday, as it is a Pro-D day. Thank you! Happy Thanksgiving long weekend everyone! There is no school tomorrow or on Monday.
Next week there will be no formal library exchange, but kids are welcome to exchange books before/after school and at lunch other than on Tuesday. I sent home my information sheet about parent/teacher conferences. I will attach it to the notices section of the website in case it disappeared on the way home... Our first spelling test will be on Friday, October 16th. Grade 5s have a list of words and the grade 4s have words that they must sort and spell. The grade 4s will be tested on 10 words plus a bonus word to test if they learned the rule, and the grade 5s will be tested on all 20 words. We only do spelling tests occasionally and it goes towards their writing conventions mark. Make sure your child brings their recorder to school on Tuesday and that they have their gym strip for Thursday. We have begun our new math unit and have begun to practice/review addition. The grade 5s are working their way up to adding millions to millions, and the grade 4s to 10,000s to 10,000s. I will be away on Wednesday afternoon, as I am taking part in a project about science inquiry curriculum development and use. Don't forget the hot lunch sign up deadline is fast approaching! Photo day is on October 19th. Thank you! September has flown by!
Next week, we have Leadership Day on Wednesday. It will be a full day event and we need parent help! Your child has been given his/her team colour and, if possible, they should come dressed in that colour. There is no school on Friday for district implementation day. Library exchange is on Monday, P.E. is on Monday and Thursday, and students need their recorders Tuesday and Thursday. Parent/Teacher conferences are coming up at the end of the month. I will send more information home closer to the dates. I will be having an open house on the Wednesday (Oct. 21st), and, if needed, you can book an appointment at that time for Thursday (Oct. 22nd). There is no school on the 23rd. Math tests are coming home today to be signed and returned. Please know that this is not the only form of assessment I use in math, so if a student does not perform well on a test it does not mean they will do poorly in math. This was our first test and marks ranged from C- to A. Thank you! |
